PE
Wygate Park Academy’s Physical Education curriculum aims to inspire all pupils to succeed and excel in variety of competitive sports and other physical activities. Physical Education will provide opportunities for pupils to become physically confident in a way which supports their health and fitness. We offer opportunities to all pupils to compete in sport and other activities in order to instil our school values such as resilience and honesty.
Our pupils enjoy taking part in their weekly PE sessions, interhouse competitions, playground activities, and after school sports club. Weekly PE sessions encourage our pupils to develop skills in invasion games, striking and fielding, gymnastics, dance, and athletics. Our pupils utilise these skills and enjoy taking part in weekly interhouse competitions where children compete in their school houses in a variety of sports. Afterschool sports clubs allow our pupils to further develop their sporting skills and compete in a fun and enjoyable way, Throughout the year, further opportunities for children to compete and showcase their sporting capabilities are encouraged at sporting competitions where our pupils compete against other local schools in our community.
Our pupils in KS2 have a terms access to our local swimming pool which is utilised to develop their confidence in swimming. A variety of strokes are taught and children are challenged to swim 25m and develop the important life saving and water safety skills which will prepare them with vital skills for life.
