Maths
At Wygate Park Academy, we recognise the vital role Mathematics plays in everyday life and the importance of helping children make meaningful links between mathematical learning and the world around them. Our aim is to develop confident mathematicians who can solve problems, reason mathematically, think logically and work systematically and accurately.
We challenge all children in every Maths session and ensure they are encouraged to excel, regardless of their starting point. New concepts are introduced using a Concrete, Pictorial and Abstract approach. This allows children to explore ideas through hands-on resources, visual representations and abstract methods, securing deep and lasting understanding.
Oracy is embedded across all subjects at Wygate Park Academy, and Maths is no exception. We use concept cartoons and purposeful talk activities to promote mathematical discussion, enabling children to articulate their thinking, explain strategies and explore misconceptions collaboratively.
