Y6 Homework – Term 5

Children will continue to bring home a range of activities linked to their maths, reading and SPAG (spelling and grammar). These will take no longer than 10 minutes each and will be good practice in preparation for the SATs papers they will sit in May. Homework will continue to be set on a Thursday and we will mark the activities as a class together on a Thursday afternoon. Therefore, it is important that the children are completing the tasks and bringing it in on time to complete the marking process and to stick in their new activities for the week.

The children's spellings will be sent home with them in their spelling journal. This will focus on a specific spelling rule. On Spelling Shed, the same spelling rule will be set for the children for them to practise but these will not be the words that are tested. The children will be tested on the words from their spelling journal.

Online Apps

As well as their paper homework, the children have access to an array of online tools to support their learning at home. The use of these is encouraged as they can enhance their learning in a fun and exciting way. The children should have all their log in details. If they cannot find them, they have access to a log in key ring in class and can use this to write them down to bring home.

Here is a reminder of the websites they can use:

Times Table Rockstars – https://ttrockstars.com/

Maths Prodigy – https://www.prodigygame.com/main-en/

EdShed (Spelling) - https://www.edshed.com/en-gb

Spelling Journal

Spellings are set every Thursday alongside the homework and the weekly spelling quiz will be the Thursday after. The children will write their spelling scores in their spelling journals and these will then be sent home for parents to look at. In Year 6, it is also important that the children can spell the words on the Statutory Spelling List for Years 5/6. The weekly spellings will be set every week on Spelling Shed so the children can access this as part of their homework to practise their spellings. The statutory word list will also be set on there every week too.
