Year 2 Trip To Tattershall Castle
As part of our topic, ‘Towers, Tunnels and Turrets’, the Year 2 children visited Tattershall Castle. The children explored the six floors of the castle climbing all 149 steps of the spiral staircase! They enjoyed hearing all about how the basement was used to store food in the days before fridge freezers and seeing the amazing views from the battlements at the very top of the castle.
The children had their snack in the Great Hall and their lunch outside in the stunning grounds of the castle. They then played medieval games which were based around Pieter Bruegel’s famous painting ‘Children’s Games’. Finally, they dressed up in medieval clothing and learned the theme, structure and timing of variety of dances as danced by the gentry and the ordinary folk. They enjoyed learning how to bow and curtsey and performing these dances.
